Some connections of Robert Auchmuty, Judge of the Admiralty in New England, who left many American descendants, are traced out in Burke's _Genealogical and Heraldic History of The Commoners of Great Britain and Ireland_, vol. 4:

Note that his mother, wife of Capt. John Auchmuty of Newtown Flood, co. Longford, Ireland, is named by Burke as "Isabella, daughter of the Rev. James Stirling, rector of Temple Michael."
_Notes and Queries_ for 1923 contains a statement possibly of interest:
"The Rev. James Sterling, Rector of Templemihill for 33 years, died intestate 31 Aug., 1693, aged 74, and was buried in Longford Church. He married Helen Maxwell, who died 2 March, 1709, and was buried with her husband."

The writer suggests Mr. James was from the family of Sterling of Keir.
