In RD500, Gary Boyd Roberts lists E. E. Salisbury, *Family Histories and Genealogies,* vol. 1, Part II (1892), among the sources of his lineage for Simon Lynde of Mass. on pages 371-372. The Salisbury material deals with the Digby & Griffin families. On pages 439-440, in note 7, Salisbury mentions the family of Anna Chamberlain/Chamberlayn, wife of Richard Griffin and mother of Nicholas Griffin (d. 1436) of Braybrook.

Her father is identified as "Richard Chamberlayn de Cotts, co. Lincoln," but Salisbury then goes on to discuss a family that married into the Loveyne/Louvain and Knevit/Knyveit (i.e., the Richard Chamberlain/Chamberlayn who married Margaret Loveyne, daughter of Sir Nicholas Loveyne and Margaret de Vere discussed on this forum a few years ago).

The implication seems to be that Anna and her father, Richard Chamberlayn, are members of this family, but Salisbury is very vague about the exact nature of the connection. Does anyone on the list know what relationship, if any, Anna Chamberlayn and her father have to Richard Chamberlayn and his wife Margaret Loveyne?

Thanks.

This Chamberlayne family also held lands in North Reston, Lincs. Cotes may refer to Northamptonshire, a home of this Chamberlayne family. She is undoubtedly kin, but at this moment, I can see no sure answer.
