Part of the ancestry of actor Damien Lewis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damian_Lewis
is included on The Peerage.com: http://www.thepeerage.com/p17574.htm

The lineage of his mother's family, Bowater, as recorded there, is taken from a pedigree
that was published in Miscellanea Genealogica et Heraldica in 1877:

https://archive.org/details/miscellaneagenea02unse/page/176/mode/2up

Part of the same pedigree is here:

https://genealogics.org/pedigree.php?personID=I00734362&tree=LEO

Neither of these compilations includes the gentry ancestry of Dean Tyndall of
Great Maplestead, Essex, who is recorded in the Visitations of Essex for 1634:

https://archive.org/details/visitationsofess13byumetc/page/510/mode/2up
https://archive.org/details/cu31924029787458/page/n167/mode/2up

One of the ancestral couples in the Bowater pedigree is Richard Bowater,
married at St. Peters, Derby, 15 March 1738/9, to Mary Bayley, daughter of
Thomas Bayley, Member of Parliament.

There is a brief sketch of Thomas Bayley here:
https://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1715-1754/member/bayley-thomas-1679-1734
His will only briefly mentions his children:
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D637545

His widow Bridget left a more informative will:
https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D627062
Besides mentioning her daughter Bowater, she also mentions her son Wolston Bayley,
and her sister Elizabeth Dixie.

Bridget was the 2nd daughter of Wolstan Dixie, 3rd Baronet, and his wife Rebecca Atkins,
as recorded in Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of Peerage, Baronetage and Knightage

https://archive.org/details/bub_gb_Pf8cAAAAYAAJ/page/n829/mode/2up

There are descents from Edward III through Wolston Dixie, as outlined here:

I agree entirely. Damian Lewis's performance in "Billions" has been outstanding - especially opposite Paul Giamatti, another fine actor. I'm eagerly awaiting the resumption of the series (suspended by the pandemic).

By my count Damien Lewis has 13 descents from Edward I, of which 4 are Edward III descents. As expected all the descents are through Bridget Dixie. I imagine that all the descents are probably in Genealogics, but I haven't checked.

Those lineages should be there now, since Genealogics was updated
a few days ago. Also worth noting:

Mr Thomas Bealy and Ms Bridget Dixi were married at
Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, on 3 October 1717.

NB that he is Damian, not Damien - there is some inconsistency in this thread!

I checked the four Edward III descents and, as expected, they're all in Genealogics. I'll assume the remaining Edward I descents are there also.

It's interesting that the 13 Edward I descents come from four successive marriages in the Dixie family: the wives of the first three baronets and the mother of the first baronet.

It's hard to tell from this listing (which is probably from the Roglo database), but it shows 17, not 13, Edward I descents for Damian Lewis (via Bridget Dixie) However, there is an error here. Number 49,554 William Hastings is the brother, not the son, of number 99,108 Edward , 2nd Baron Hastings. This is confirmed by the Hastings pedigree in Collins' Peerage (Archdale ed.), 6:650 and also by a SGM post of 7 Sept 2012 by Brad Verity which shows his correct parents and also shows his wife as Jane Sheffield. (Brad: can you identify your source for his wife?)

John,

From 'Stemmata Shirleiana', p. 59: "The fourth wife of Sir Ralph Shirley was Jane, eldest daughter of Sir Robert Sheffield, of Chilwell, in the county of Nottingham, knt, and of Butterwick, in Lincolnshire, by Helen his wife, daughter and heir of Sir John Delves, of Delves Court, in the county of Stafford, knt. ... Dame Jane, the widow of Sir Ralph, remarried Sir William Hastings, knt. second son of William Lord Hastings, by Katharine his wife, daughter of Richard Neville, Earl of Salisbury. She died the 16th of March, 11th Hen. VIII. having had issue one daughter by her second marriage, who married John Beaumont of Gracedieu, in the county of Leicester, esq. [Harl. MSS. 4928, p. 270]"

Thanks, Brad - this is very helpful. I see now that I did have Jane Sheffield in my data as the wife of Sir Ralph Shirley, but I had overlooked her 2nd husband. So, Jane is ancestral to Princes William and Harry by both of her husbands. A nice addition...

Thanks for your message, William is now with his brother Edward in the database and there is now 13 relationships between Damian and King Edward I.

Part of the ancestry of actor Damien Lewis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damian_Lewis
is included on The Peerage.com: http://www.thepeerage.com/p17574.htm
The lineage of his mother's family, Bowater, as recorded there, is taken from a pedigree
https://archive.org/details/miscellaneagenea02unse/page/176/mode/2up
https://genealogics.org/pedigree.php?personID=I00734362&tree=LEO
Neither of these compilations includes the gentry ancestry of Dean Tyndall of
https://archive.org/details/visitationsofess13byumetc/page/510/mode/2up
https://archive.org/details/cu31924029787458/page/n167/mode/2up
One of the ancestral couples in the Bowater pedigree is Richard Bowater,
married at St. Peters, Derby, 15 March 1738/9, to Mary Bayley, daughter of
Thomas Bayley, Member of Parliament.

Mr Thomas Bealy and Ms Bridget Dixi were married at
Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, on 3 October 1717.
From Leicestershire parish registers, available at Findmypast.com.

A list of the children of Bridget (Dixie) Bayley was published by Joseph Foster, in 1887:

One of the descents from Edward III to Damien Lewis was reported back in 2015,
at # 134 under Edward III:

One famous person who is not on the list is author C.S. Lewis:

His mother has a number of royal descents, which have been added here in
the past week:

Mary Lysaght and Kingsmill Pennefather were married in 1754 at Cloyne, co Cork
Since her parents had only been married 7 Dec 1735, this puts a narrow birthyear range on Mary of 1736/1742 (to be at least 12 at her own marriage)

According to CP 8:79, Mary Lysaght's parents were married 17 Dec 1725 - not 7 Dec 1735. And the 1725 marriage date is also given in her father's bio in "History of the Irish Parliament 1692-1800", 5:147. Your 7 Dec 1735 looks like a mistake.

Since you mentioned Edward III descents, It's worth noting that Florence Augusta [Flora} Hamilton, the mother of C. S. Lewis, appears to have 15 Edward III descents - 5 via her father and 10 via her mother.
