Is this new information?

The Wikipedia entry for Washington Irving says, "Washington Irving's parents were William Irving Sr., originally of Quholm, Shapinsay, Orkney, Scotland, and Sarah (nee Sanders), both Scottish immigrants. They married in 1761 while William was serving as a petty officer in the British Navy."

The parish register of Falmouth, co. Cornwall, contains a record of the 18 May 1761 marriage of "Irven, William, Mariner & Sarah Sanders."

Corrigienda in the front of the volume says a bit more: "... add as a footnote Parents of Washington Irving. William Irven was a native of the Orkney Islands."

I guess it is known; however Sarah was Cornish, not Scottish, per this:
