Catherine Offley's great-grandfather was William Offley, who was twice mayor of Stafford and sheriff of Chester in 1517. This William Offley married twice (first to a Dorrington or Dillon, second to Elizabeth Rogerson) and his descendants include (among others) the Earls Spencer (and Diana, late Princess of Wales), the Earls of Lucan, Winston Churchill, David Cameron, the novelist F Scott Fitzgerald, Watergate conspirator G Gordon Liddy, George Mason of Virginia (so-called 'father of the US Bill of Rights'), Confederate general James Longstreet, the wives of Ulysses S Grant and Robert E Lee, and Paris and Nicky Hilton.

There's a pedigree of Offley in "The Genealogist" (New Series, v.XIX-XX, 1903-04); available here:https://archive.org/stream/genealogist01unkngoog#page/n232/mode/2up
